Shopping in the Center of Linz

The main shopping street is the Landstrasse in the center of Linz. The majority of shops are small with limited stock and owned by individuals. The number of retail chains is rather small. Usually shop assistants in Linz are polite, helpful and knowledgeable. Shopping for cloth can be quite expensive. Even during the sales period items are rarely reduced by more than 30%. There a a very small number of shops stocking designer wear, which may be worth a visit, particularly during the sales period.

Linz has a few shopping centers on the outskirts of the city.

Shopping for Eectrical Goods or Furniture

If you are relocating to Linz  and you require furniture or electrical goods try to purchase them before you relocate. Electrical items, such as TV sets, heaters and other goods can be extremely expensive, the cheapest mobile phones can be about 3 times as expensive as for example in the UK.    

Food and Drink Shopping in Linz

Linz is an excellent place to get good Austrian food, such as sausages, cheese, cakes and many typical Austrian dishes and ingredients. 

Linz Farmers Market

There is a very good farmers market Linz Südbahnhofmarkt. Farm stalls at the Linz Südbahnhofmarkt offer a variety of original Austrian sausages, meat, cheese, fruit and vegetable, great bread and Austrian wines, such as the very famous and popular Gruener Veltliner.

Linz Food Stores

Linz' many butchers (Fleischhauer) offer a great selection of sausages and typical Austrian meat dishes. Bread in Austria is an absolute delight and you can find an excellent selection of different types of whites and dark  bread in almost every bakery. Cakes are usually sold in a Konditorei, which offers the opportunity for take away or seat in. Linz is home to the famous Linzer Torte.
